After a tumultuous week where popular file-sharing website Megaupload was shut down by the Department of Justice, two other digital locker sites, FileSonic and FileServe, have decided to stop users from uploading and sharing files using their services.
Similar to Megaupload, both FileSonic and FileServe allowed users to upload and store files in the cloud and then distribute a link pointing to the file for others to download. This move is undoubtedly in response to the DoJ shuttering Megaupload under accusations of piracy.
FileSonic posted the following message on its site:
"All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally."
It's not hard to imagine that almost every file-sharing site is looking at the Megaupload case to dictate how it will operate going into the future. It wouldn't be surprising to see a couple more services amend their rules and terms of service to prevent being shut down.

Popular file-hosting site Megaupload, probably known to our readers for a variety of reasons, has been taken down after the FBI charged some of its staff with copyright infringement and “conspiracy to commit racketeering.” Seven people have been charged, and four arrested (in New Zealand), and the site itself appears to be down as authorities around the world closed in on the site’s resources.
Bizarrely, it was also just revealed that the CEO of the company is none other than Swizz Beats, the husband of Alicia Keys. Clearly the rabbit hole goes much deeper than the FBI expected.
Mr. Beats is just the acting CEO, and probably was brought on by founder Kim Dotcom as part of the site’s efforts to legitimize itself in the eyes of the law. Part of this effort was the publication of the so-called “Mega Song,” in which a number of musicians espouse the service as a useful and fast way of transferring files.
In December, Will.I.Am, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and the others pulled their support, and it was claimed that they never consented to appearing in the video, which was subsequently removed from YouTube.
Naturally, it was quickly replaced by users who had downloaded it, and you can watch it below:
Megaupload filed a countersuit against UMG regarding the video, but there doesn’t appear to be any movement by the company on today’s news. The Department of Justice has issued a press release describing the action taken and the employees who were indicted; the release also alleges that Megaupload failed to comply with DMCA provisions.
The FBI stressed that the takedown had nothing to do with the ongoing SOPA/PIPA controversy; indeed, a direct takedown of the site with international cooperation is much more in line with existing methods for dealing with “rogue” websites.
It seems as if the whole story will have to come out in court, as Megaupload likely doesn’t have the resources to continue operating while its staff is on the lam. It should make for interesting reading once the dust settles.
Update: In retaliation, Anonymous, or one of their many members or factions claiming to be Anonymous, has attacked the Justice Department’s site and appear to have brought it down. AnonOps summarizes: “Tango down!”
There have been rumors that are circulating like wildfire that the ABS-CBN noontime show, "Happy Yipee Yehey!" is soon facing the ax. According to rumors, the show will only be airing until the end of January 2012.
As of now, there hadn’t been any possible replacement for the show considering they only have barely few weeks left. With the show gone, the Kapamilya network's talent show "Showtime" will temporarily fill the void until ABS-CBN has developed a new show to compete with the undisputed leader "Eat Bulaga!"
I saw "Happy Yipee Yehey!"'s intro it's pretty energetic but they are going up against an institution, the hosts are not as charismatic as Willie although, they can be. It's not like the shows ratings are just going to boost up, it will go higher, slowly which I think the show's picking up.
Some fans are posting some requests to ABS-CBN in some forums and social media accounts:
Really its not that bad. The only people that needs to leave this show are the people who are useless.... aheemmm Rico. They should also get rid of the CURRENT PRODUCERS and CREATIVE DIRECTORS. they're the ones to blame because they had a year and they lacked creativity. They get paid big bucks to do that and nothing...... Introduce other new Co-hosts but please keep POKWANG, TONI, JOHN, RANDY, BENTONG, PRATTY?.... I don't get why they don't add Pooh or other comedians...
Also, if the rumors aren't true and HYY is not ending, I really do hope that we do get to see changes to the show and that Rico gets the boot. I want the new staff to do what is necessary and listen to those who want the show to succeed. I don't want another My Girl with RJR. I want to see new segments or the return of segments like Launch-A-Funny Taym, Happy Ka-Family, or WOF. I also want to see new and fresh faces. Out with the old. It's 2012, a new year, and as we approach the one-year anniversary, we need to see the changes.
It seems like fans are still going to look forward that everyday HYY will give it's very best so let's just hope that.
For me they're getting better and considering they've been almost here for a year now. But I really hope that by their first anniversary, that they'll be shaping up some reformat changes to refreshen viewers like us to watch a better HYY than a predictable HYY. Hopefully new hosts too.
Windows 7 has many hidden themes in it. It provides location specific themes to users. Users get access to themes according to the information provided at the time of installation. It has 5 different set of Windows 7 themes for different countries.
To access those hidden themes for windows of other countries you will have to unhide the hidden system files and folders. To do this open My computer. Click on Organize --> Folder and Search Options --> view tab. Now navigate to C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT.
There you can see five different folders each for five different countries US, Canada, South Africa, Britain and Austrailia. Open any of the folder and there go inside the theme folder. Double click on the theme file to activate that theme.
Don’t forget to hide your protected system files again.

Computers are like pets – they need care. We all want our computer to be fast, efficient, and responsive, but when it starts slowing down, most people just get mad at it. Well, don’t. Just give it some good care. The maintenance tips in this article will help you make your XP computer faster, safer, and more stable.
Reduce Recycle Bin Size
Nowadays hard disks are pretty large, so the default 10% for the Recycle Bin is way too much. Most users would be OK with 5–10Gb, which will usually be from 2 to 5% of the hard drive space.
To reduce the size of your Recycle Bin do the following:
Go to Desktop
Right–click on the Recycle Bin icon
Select Properties
Use the slider to choose the required percentage
Click Apply, then click OK
Turn Off Remote Desktop And Remote Assistance
Windows XP has services that make it possible for other people to access your computer remotely. They are handy if a computer is part of a network, but there is always a danger that hackers may use them to access your computer. So, if your PC is not part of a network, it’s best to turn them off. Here’s how:
Go to Start – Settings – Control Panel
Double-click the System icon
Select the Remote tab
Uncheck Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer
In the same tab click Advanced
Uncheck Allow users to connect remotely to this computer
Click Apply, then click OK
Don’t worry – you will be able to access MSN, Skype and other similar programs. Turning off Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop doesn’t affect them in any way.
Run Windows XP Chkdsk (Check Disk) From Time To Time
Windows XP chkdsk is a tool that should be run from time to time. It will scan the disk for errors, fix logical errors, detect and mark bad sectors, so that Windows will no longer try to use them. This way it can prevent your computer from becoming unstable.
There is a slight disadvantage, though – Check Disk may require a lot of time to perform its task. It depends on many things, like overall PC speed, number of files and folders on the disk, amount of RAM, and disk size. So it’s best to run Check Disk only if you don’t need to use the computer for some time.
Also Windows XP chkdsk wants exclusive access to the computer. In most cases it will ask for a reboot and will run right after the reboot, so you won’t have access to your PC. Of course, you can always interrupt the process, but it’s not a good idea.
To run Check Disk do this:
Find the My Computer icon on your desktop and double-click it
Find the disk you want to check, right-click it and go to Properties
In the Properties dialog box go to Tools
Click Check now
A new dialog box will appear, check both options and click Start
Most likely you will get a message that Check Disk wants exclusive access to the disk and wants to start right after your reboot. Click OK
Restart your computer
Defrag Regularly
Badly fragmented disks can cause a lot of problems, like general system slowdowns, slower startup and shutdowns, and even computer crashes. Basically, your hard drive is the slowest part of your computer and file fragmentation makes it even slower.
Windows has a built in Disk Defragmenter. To use it go to Start – Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Defragmenter. Like any other defrag utility it gathers file fragments that are scattered all over your disk and writes them into adjacent clusters.
But to be honest, I never use Windows Disk Defrag – it takes quite some time to do its job and skips too many files.
The good news are that there are good free defrag utilities available for download. The ones I like are Auslogics DiskDefrag and Piriform Defraggler. Both are from trusted developers and do their job great. Personally, I like the Auslogics one better, because it doesn’t need time to analyze the disk, so it’s very fast.
Recover from a CMOS memory-affecting virus or work around a boot-time password by making BIOS forget all it once knew.
A PC goes through a process when it is first turned on: the Power-On Self-Test, or P.O.S.T. Some system boards provide security measures that demand a password before beginning the P.O.S.T. process or allowing you into the BIOS setup program.
The original IBM-PC (1981) did not provide any security measures or a BIOS setup program; all it had was a P.O.S.T. If you needed to configure a PC, you did it with switches and jumpers. A program to set up the system BIOS and configuration did not come along until the IBM-PC/AT (1984), and it had to be run from a special boot-up diskette. The idea of providing a user interface and access to the system configuration settings within the BIOS did not come along until about 1986. Today no PC system is made without this valuable built-in setup feature. Eventually, the security feature of password-protecting access to the system came along.
If, after turning on your PC, you are prompted for a password instead of greeted with a fancy logo screen or the technical gibberish that suggests the system is getting ready to let you use it, then a security feature has been turned on that we call a " pre-boot password." Without the right password to get past this point, the system is basically dead in the water—game over, do not pass go and collect $200—unless or until you reset the BIOS setting. But how do you do that without getting past the password to the setup program?
This hack is also very effective for putting the system board back into "factory stupid" mode where it knows nothing about your system components and forgets all of your parameter tweaks. This is very useful if you've performed a hack that renders the system unbootable or unstable.
The goal is to get the system to forget that it needs a password and forget what the password was. The password data is stored with the rest of the system configuration data in a small amount of memory that is kept alive using a small battery or internal power cell. To clear out the data, you need to remove the power from this memory element. This means the system will also lose any system configuration that was saved. You'll need to later reconfigure the system parameters so you can boot your operating system.
For this and many subsequent hacks, you will be working with electrical components inside your PC. We want you to get through the entire book and enjoy your computer for a long time without risk of electrical shock or component damage. When the cover is off your PC and you are removing or adding components—be they add-in cards, RAM chips, CPUs, or fans—especially when you are handling the screws to hold things in place, ALWAYS turn the PC's power OFF and unplug the power cord from the back of the PC.
Disconnecting the power cord removes the risk of exposure to high voltages and accidentally turning the power to the system board on. Disconnecting the power cord also allows the PC chassis to become ungrounded, which reduces the potential difference between any static charge in your body and the chassis so static shocks are less likely.
It is also recommended that you use an anti-static wrist strap connected to the PC's chassis for further protection of delicate electronic components.
To perform this hack you will need:
A #1 or #2 Phillips-head screwdriver, or (less likely) a T-15 TORX driver or a 1/4" hex nutdriver, to open the case
Needle-nosed pliers if you are working with jumpers
A small flashlight or headlamp
With tools at hand, perform the following steps:
Turn the PC off (this means a total shutdown, not merely standby or hibernate mode) and disconnect the AC power cord.
Remove the cover from your system (this step may require tools, undoing a thumbscrew, or flipping a latch or two).
Refer to the user manual for the motherboard to find out how to "reset CMOS" memory. You may also find a label for specific jumper or switch settings marked on the system board.
Change the switch setting or jumper position to a specific position or remove the jumper entirely as prescribed in the manual to clear or reset the CMOS memory.
Wait 20-30 seconds for the memory to clear out from lack of power.
After 20-30 seconds put the switch or jumper the way it was before for normal use.
Reconnect the power cord and start up the system to see if the settings have changed to defaults.
Shut the PC down, disconnect the power cord, replace the cover, reconnect the power, and power up the PC.
Enter the BIOS setup program to configure the system as needed. This may include setting the date and time, selecting disk drive parameters, and selecting which devices the system uses to boot up with first.
If your system does not have a "reset CMOS" jumper or switch , the only option is to locate and remove the coin-style battery cell (or on some very old PCs, the battery pack), as shown in Figure 1-2, that provides the power to the CMOS memory.
System board with coin-style battery used to retain CMOS memory
Follow Steps 1 and 2 above, locate the battery, and remove it. Leave the battery out of the system for 20-30 seconds, replace it, and start up the system. The CMOS memory in some systems may retain settings longer than others. If the CMOS memory does not clear and you're still stuck, you may need to leave the battery out for several hours before reinstalling it.Once the system is able to perform P.O.S.T. and to start booting up the system, you will need to get into the Setup program for the BIOS and make a few basic adjustments, such as:
Setting the date and time
Selecting auto-detect or manually setting specific parameters for IDE hard drives
Setting the boot-device order—diskette drive, hard drive, CD-ROM, etc.
If you expect to perform more hacks with jumpers, switches, cables, chips, or disk drives, you'll probably find it convenient to leave the cover off your PC, but beware: we do not want to cause more trouble than we're trying to solve. You could be exposing yourself to dangerous voltages (inside the power supply) or exposing the internal wires and connections to disk drives and plug-in cards to your tools, screws, and other wires that could come in contact with them. At this stage, spilling your favorite beverage or dropping your tools anywhere inside the PC chassis is not advised.
