Facebook is going to leave no stone unturned to maintain its dominance in the social networking segment. Earlier this year, it rolled out a series of updates, including video chat service, ticker and timeline. And now the social networking site has turned its attention towards the “status update” section. Facebook has increased the maximum length of its 'status update' to more than 60,000 characters ( 63,206 to be precise), 12 times of what it used to be.
However, it's not the first time when the social networking site has expanded the status limit. Back in July this year, Facebook increased this limit to 500 characters. Just after a month, the limit was increased up to 5,000 characters.
Facebook’s Journalist Program Manager Vadim Lavrusik shares a picture on the social networking site, stating, “In September, we increased the character limit on status updates to 5,000 characters. Today, we're announcing that you can now write posts with more than 60,000 characters.”
In spite of the update, Facebook does not score over the newly launched Google+. Google's social networking site lets you post updates of length of about 100,000 characters. However, Twitter, another popular social networking site, allows users to post status of up to 140 characters.
