SM Launches The Arena

October 11, 2011 marked yet another milestone in SM’s sixty five–year history as corporate honchos, members of the media and high society trooped down to the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex to attend the much –anticipated trade launch of SM’s first sports and entertainment arena, the Mall of Asia Arena.

The first of its kind in Asia, the Arena is part of SM Group’s founder and SM Prime Holdings chairman Henry Sy Sr.’s advocacy to help uplift the country’s tourism and entertainment sectors by being a premier entertainment and sports destination in Asia and by catering to local and international talents. SM Prime Holdings president Hans T. Sy added that this latest venture from SM “symbolizes their belief in world class Filipino talent for both entertainment and sports”.

And a taste of world-class it is, indeed. Designed by Hongkong-based architectural firm Arquitectronica, together with Syncom, the Arena’s state of the art amenities include an exclusive club lounge, dressing and shower rooms, press rooms, production rooms, comprehensive dug outs, sports bar, and a variety of dining and merchandise shops.

The 64,085 square meter-venue is also first to offer in the country Corporate Suites that shall serve as a vantage point for VIPs for viewing arena events during private functions or meetings.  

The Arena’s strategic location along Manila’s Sunset Boulevard makes it an apt venue of choice for various advertisers to conduct promotional advertising. It also allows easy access to guests from both the North and the South using all modes of transportation. For those who have private vehicles, the Arena is adequately equipped with up to 1,400 slots to serve parking needs.

Set to open its doors on May 19, 2012, the Arena’s schedule is already jampacked with lustrous events, including the NCAA and UAAP opening scheduled on June 30 and July 7, respectively, and the Cirque de Soleil on August 18 and 19. The Arena is also expected to host concerts, fashion shows and game events from the National Basketball Association.
